Wilson Chu was born in China in 1946 and later studied in the Guangzhou Academy of Arts. In 1977 he and his family came to Vancouver. Wilson has earned a fine reputation as a painter of various subjects. His depictions of flowers and landscapes are infused with a rich textural quality of light that few painters are able to achieve. He has also received attention for his talent as a portrait painter.
Wilson enjoys travelling in Europe where he paints small studies that later will be referred to for larger pieces.
"For many years I have been in search of my own world of art. I have created it by using vibrant colour combined with brilliant light absorbed from the French Impressionists and melted into the bold brush strokes of traditional Chinese watercolour and ink painting. Light is the pulse of my painting"
