Ieva Baklane was born in Latvia in 1974. She studied at the renowned Janis Rosenthal College of Art and later obtained her master's degree in art at the Latvia Academy of Arts in Riga. From 1990 onwards Ieva had exhibitions in Riga, Berlin, Prague and Rome. In 2002 she moved to Toronto and to Ottawa in 2004, exhibiting in both cities.

Living in Canada has greatly inspired her as an artist - coming from a small European country she was surprised and amazed by Canada and its wonderful natural surroundings. She began painting Canadian landscapes in oils. Exploring and interpreting this beautiful country's scenery, her intent is to attain balance and peace "a state we so frequently lose sight of in our busy everyday lives".

Ieva lives with her husband and daughter in Vancouver.
